Ga-Young Choi, Ph.D.

Dr. Ga-Young Choi is Professor at California State University Los Angeles, School of Social Work.  She received her Ph.D. in Social Work and MSW degrees at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  Her research interests are largely in two-fold: domestic violence (DV) as well as health and behavioral/mental health of Asian Americans and immigrants.  Within the area DV, she focuses on the secondary traumatic stress of practitioners who assist domestic violence survivors with a particular interest in organizational level of prevention and intervention.  Other streams of Dr. Choi’s DV research include examining violence and maltreatment in intimate relationships among college students and Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.  Concerning the wellbeing of Asian Americans and immigrants, her research has evolved around examining health behaviors of Korean Americans and immigrants to generate culturally sensitive approaches in serving their health and behavioral/mental health needs.  Dr. Choi’s work is published in renowned social work journals including Health & Social Work, International Social Work, Affilia, Journal of Social Work, etc.
